Skin Tag Removal / DPN Removal in Nairobi
Clean, precise removal. With melanated skin in mind.
Dermatosis Papulosa Nigra (DPN) and skin tags are common benign skin growths that can appear on the face, neck and body.
At Vital Skin Kenya, we assess each growth before treatment and use targeted removal techniques designed to remove suitable lesions while minimising unnecessary trauma to the surrounding skin.

WHAT ARE WE ACTUALLY REMOVING?
DPN, Skin Tags or Warts?
They can look similar, but they aren't the same.
DPN — Dermatosis Papulosa Nigra
Small, smooth, brown-to-black raised growths commonly found on the cheeks, temples, forehead and neck. DPN is particularly common in people with darker skin tones and often increases in number with age.
Skin Tags
Soft, flesh-coloured or darker growths that often project or hang from the skin. They commonly occur around the neck, underarms and other areas where skin folds or friction occurs.
Warts
Growths caused by infection with certain types of human papillomavirus (HPV). Unlike DPN and ordinary skin tags, warts are viral and can spread. They often have a firmer or rougher surface, although their appearance varies

“I have warts I want removed.”
We hear this frequently. Many growths clients refer to as warts turn out to be DPN or skin tags—but you shouldn't have to diagnose them yourself. We assess the growths first and determine whether they are appropriate for cosmetic removal.
HOW REMOVAL WORKS
Small growth. Targeted treatment.
We use professional removal techniques which include:
-Electrocautery
-CO2 Laser
Four steps of removal:
01 — ASSESS
We examine the growths, treatment area, number and size before determining whether they are suitable for removal.
02 — PREPARE
The skin is cleansed and prepared before treatment to make the procedure as controlled and comfortable as possible.
03 — REMOVE
Suitable DPNs or skin tags are individually targeted while minimizing unnecessary treatment of the surrounding skin.
04 — HEAL
Small crusts or scabs may form over treated areas. These are allowed to shed naturally while the skin underneath heals.
The full treatment takes 40–60 minutes depending on the number of lesions.
HEALING
What happens after removal?
I'd make this a visual timeline:
IMMEDIATELY AFTER
Treated areas may appear darker, slightly raised or irritated.
→
FIRST FEW DAYS
Small crusts or scabs develop over the treated spots.
→
SHEDDING
The crusts gradually loosen and fall away naturally. They should not be picked.
→
SKIN SETTLES
Temporary lighter or darker marks can remain after the crusts shed and gradually improve as the skin recovers.

FAQ
Will DPN come back after removal?
Successfully removed DPNs do not simply regrow in exactly the same way, but people who are prone to DPN may develop new growths over time.
Will skintags come back after removal?
Successfully removed Skintags do not simply regrow in exactly the same way, but people who are prone to skintags may develop new growths over time.
Will removal leave dark marks?
Temporary pigmentation changes can occur during healing, particularly in melanated skin. Appropriate treatment technique and aftercare are important, and marks generally need time to settle.
Can I pick the scabs after treatment?
No. Allow crusts to shed naturally. Picking can interfere with healing and increase the risk of unwanted pigmentation or scarring.
Can removing skintags or DPN make them multiply?
No. Since they are not infectious or contagious, removal of either DPN or Skintags does not make them multiply.
How long does healing take?
Initial crusting generally settles over the days following treatment, but complete colour normalisation can take longer and varies between individuals.
Can all skin tags and growths be removed?
No. We assess growths before cosmetic treatment. Anything that appears unusual or unsuitable for cosmetic removal should receive appropriate medical assessment.
Can I remove DPN from my entire face?
Yes, where appropriate. The number, size and distribution of DPNs will be assessed before treatment so we can determine the best approach.
Ready to remove what's been bothering you?
You don't need to count every DPN or know exactly what type of growth you have.
